Our first day of the trip began with a coach journey from Newquay to Heathrow. Lots of our friends and family came to Air Ambulance HQ to wave us off so there was a lovely atmosphere. We were spoiled with bacon butties made by Paula, the Air Ambulance CEO! After a quick photo call with the helicopter, we set off on our journey about 09:45.
After a brief stop at Gordano services, we arrived at Heathrow and met our Expedition Leader, Dean, at the check in desk. We boarded our plane bound for Madrid about 19:00 and were pleased to see that it was only about a third full so once we were in the air we spread out and many of us took the opportunity to have a welcome lie down.
